White Sauce/Cream of ----- Soup

I make my own Cream of ------ (mushroom, potatoes, chicken, etc.) from scratch! That saves me anywhere from $1.00-$1.50 Per Can!!!!

The ingredients are simple. If you make a lot of things from scratch, like I do, then you all ready have them at home. We also Always have mushrooms, potatoes & chicken!

White Sauce

1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper (I add a little more)
1 cup milk

Melt butter over low heat. Stir in flour, salt & pepper. Cook over Med heat, stirring constantly until mixture is smooth & bubbly, remove from heat.

Gradually stir in milk. Heat to boiling, stiring constantly; boil and stir 1 min.

This is the basic recipe for White. You can also use this recipe for:
cheese sauce (add 1/2 cup cheese)
curry sauce (add 1/2 tsp curry powder)
dill sauce (add 1 tsp chopped fresh or dried dill weed)

When I add in the milk, I usually add in 1/2 cup of:
mushrooms-cream of mushroom (buy from store, usually $0.50-$1.00)
potatoes-cream of potatoes (buy from store, usually $1.50)
chicken-cream of chicken (buy from store, usually $1.00
celery-cream of celery (buy from store, usually $1.00)

Basically, What ever Cream of ----- soup you need, you can make from Scratch in a matter of minutes!!!

You can also use the white sauce recipe to make Creamed Peas (a personal family recipe from my side)!!
